Active Behavior Associates, LLC

Board Certified Behavior Analysts to help you get back to your active life

ABOUT US

Active Behavior Associates, LLC is a small company of BCBAs focused on helping the people and families of our communities deal with the challenges of everyday life. Adulting is hard. Parenting is hard. School expectations are hard. Dealing with new or lasting injuries is hard. Changing routines and habits is hard. Finding help shouldn't have to be. Our goal is to help people reach their goals so that they can live healthier, happier, more balanced lives.

WHAT WE DO

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) apply the science of behavior to everyday problems to improve outcomes. Everything we do is behavior. Exercising or avoiding exercising is behavior. Interacting with others is behavior. Eating healthy food vs junk food is behavior. Self-care, calling your mom, ignoring the laundry is behavior. Going to school, work, the grocery store, or the park is all behavior. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the scientific approach used by BCBAs to understand and change behavior to increase the quality of life of those we serve.

As a science, ABA is individualized and person-centered by design allowing BCBAs to assess, design treatments and monitor treatment success using scientific measures and tools for optimal progress and results. It's the goal of Active Behavior Associates, LLC to help each person we work with reach their goals and live their best life.

A little more about ABA. . .

Over the past decade Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has become widely thought of as synonymous with Autism Treatment. While ABA is a scientifically proven effective treatment for those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), ABA is not just an Autism treatment. ABA is the science of behavior, aka ‘learning’, and has been used for many decades across a multitude of avenues to understand and improve behavior, outcomes, and systems. Many ABA techniques are woven into our daily lives, social interactions, and even our culture, but most would not recognize them as such.

As the science of learning and behavior, ABA is an effective tool to teach any skill. ABA is an effective way to teach fundamental skills, such as developmental skills or activities of daily living. It is also an effective way to teach adults how to increase the quality of their lives through skills such as time management, better sleep routines, increased healthy habits or the reduction of bad habits. ABA is also effective at teaching more complex behaviors, such as language, social communication and social skills, executive functioning skills, and coping skills as often seen in treatments for those with ASD.

ABA is used across medical fields, such as in addiction treatment or treatment for traumatic brain injury, and in conjunction with other medical treatments increasing positive outcomes for patients suffering from a wide range of medical challenges, including chronic pain and eating disorders. ABA can be used to help implement and increase positive outcomes of recommendations provided by Medical Doctors, Mental Health therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational therapists, and Physical therapists. This is just a small example of how ABA can benefit human behavior at the individual level. But that’s not all that ABA has to offer.

ABA can be seen in lots of fields. Many zoos employ BCBAs to teach animals skills needed for interacting with their environment, coping with or interacting with guests, or safely engaging in required medical care. ABA is used to teach risk management and safety skills in factories. Organizational Behavior Management (OBM) is a sub-discipline of ABA which focuses on assessing and changing workplace environments to improve professional outcomes, such as employee performance, efficiency, risk management, and business results. ABA is used in community organizations to improve social outcomes, community needs, and the environment. It’s used to reduce crime and at-risk behaviors, reduce litter, protect the environment and increase safe driving. ABA is an important part of road and transportation engineering and is even used in hostage negotiation. Marketing, advertisement development, and even video games and phone applications all benefit from the science of ABA.

ABA is, well, everywhere. But here at Active Behavior Associates, LLC we use ABA to help ourselves and our neighbors. It's hard out there, we want to help.
